The signal generator has a noise generator for generating a random signal and a synthesizer whose input is connected to the input of the noise generator and that synthesizes a predetermined number of carrier signals with coefficients determined by the random signal. The signal generator is a pseudo-random bit steam generator followed by a switchover device, especially a four-phase device. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of generating a multi carrier signal.
