Provided are an image processing system, image read-in device, region detection method, and computer program, which detect easily and with high precision a region in which a subject is present in an image in which the subject has been captured. The image processing system comprises an image projection device which projects toward a subject a projection image of a striped pattern or a lattice pattern, and an image read-in device which captures an image of the subject whereupon the projection image is projected. The image read-in device comprises an input image acquisition unit which acquires an input image in which is captured the subject whereupon the projection image is projected, a height information computation unit which, using the input image, computes height information of each pixel within the input image, and a subject region detection unit which, on the basis of the height information of each pixel within the input image, detects a subject region in the input image in which the subject is present. |
