Submarine locating system with ultrasonic transmitter - has acoustic wave receiver, whose active face is adjacent to specified body

The ultrasonic transmitter sends out acoustic waves, whose echo is received by a receiver with the echo display. For this purpose a conventional acoustic wave receiver (4) is used with a body (7), adjacent to the receiver active surface (6), of a material with a higher propagation velocity for the ultrasonic waves w.r.t. the ambient medium. The body has a plane (8) inclined to the active surface. The plane is so aligned that the impinging echo waves from the monitored object (2) pass towards the active surface after the diffraction during entry into the body. The body is pref. of iron. USE/ADVANTAGE - For submarine echo locating system. Has facility for forming object contour on display screen and object identifying.
