COMMON NAME SPACE FOR LONG FILE NAME AND SHORT FILE NAME

摘要

PURPOSE: To provide a system which supports a common name space for a long file name and a short file name. CONSTITUTION: An operating system has the common name space for both the long file name and short file name. In this common name space, long file names and short file names are provided, file by file. Each file has a directory entry with a short file name and may have a directory entry with at least one long file name relating to it. The number of directory entries for the long file name related to the file is based upon the number of the characters of the long file name of the file. The directory entry with the long file name is so constituted as to minimize the problem of compatibility with existent program bases.
