PURPOSE:To stabilize recording characteristics and obtain a longer life by providing a drive condition setting means judging the thermally changing state of a replaceable thermal head by driving the thermal head for setting a thermal head drive condition in accordance with the result of judgement. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet cartridge comprising an ink tank and a recording head 5012 as an integral part is replaceably provided on a carriage. In the recording head 5012, a heater board 500 made through a semiconductor production process is provided on a substrate 5300, and thereon a delivery heater 5113 for delivering ink, a temperature control heater 5110 for reserving/ controlling the temperature of the recording head 5012, and a temperature detection resistor are provided. In the setting of the drive condition of the recording head 5012 in a recorder having such a cartridge, a change curve including the thermally changing peak of the recording head being driven is judged, and the drive condition is set in accordance with the result of judgement. |
