The method includes the following steps: - the workpiece (1) to be machined is placed in a forming die (8) which includes, for each groove (2), a slot (9) whose parallel faces (10) are in the extension of the parallel faces (3) of the slot (2) in the workpiece (1); - the ball (14) is placed on a ball-carrier (11) having side faces (12), this ball-carrier being designed so as to move between the parallel faces (3) of the slot (2) in the workpiece and between those (10) of the slot (9) in the die (8); - progressively as the ball (14) enters the slot (2) in the workpiece (1), a predetermined reciprocating movement is communicated to the ball-carrier (11) so that the centre of the ball (14) describes, with respect to the workpiece (1), a relative path (17) identical to the curved generatrix desired for the groove. <IMAGE>
