PURPOSE:To provide an optical fiber coupler having excellent mechanical strength, transmission characteristic and handling characteristic. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of optical fibers are joined, fused and stretched to form a fusion stretched part and thereafter this fusion stretched part is housed into a coupler case 7. The base ends on the coupler case 7 side of leads 3... extending outside from a coupler case 7 are covered with flexible protective tubes 2a, 2b. These flexible protective tubes 2a, 2b and the coupler case 7 are fixed with an adhesive 4. An adhesive 5 is packed into the flexible protective tubes 2a, 2b as well. As a result, the leads 3 extending outside the coupler case 7 from the fusion stretched part are hardly damaged. The optical fiber coupler 1 having the excellent mechanical strength, transmission characteristic and handling characteristic is thus obtd. |
