LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To provide liquid crystal display having same characteristics as a liquid crystal display element having uniform orientation of the liquid crystal and a large pretilt angle. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal/polymer composite body is disposed between two substrates at least one of which is transparent. The substrates have transparent electrodes subjected to orientation treatment and the angle between the orientation directions on the two substrates is 180-270 deg.. The liquid crystal/ polymer composite body contains a nematic liquid crystal and a polymer material of a chiral material and a diacrylate compd. having a liquid crystal skeleton. Further, the liquid crystal/polymer composite body contains liquid crystal molecules oriented along the interface of the polymer and the liquid crystal, and the liquid crystal molecules are tilted by 2-50 deg. angle to the substrate plane.
