PURPOSE:To obtain an alkaline protease having excellent stability to various surfactants compared with conventional alkaline proteases produced by microorganisms of the genus Bacillus and suitable e.g. as an assistant for detergent. CONSTITUTION:There are provided a new microbial strain belonging to the genus Bacillus, an alkaline protease having the following properties and produced by culturing the new strain, its mutant or its genetic manipulation product and a process for the production of the alkaline protease. (1) The optimum pH of the enzyme is about 11-11.5 by the reaction at 30 deg.C for 10min using casein as the substrate, (2) the optimum working temperature is about 55 deg.C by the reaction at pH 10, (3) the temperature to reduce the activity half is about 46-49 deg.C when treated at pH 10 for 10min, (4) the molecular weight is 29,100+ or -1,000 measured by SDS polyacrylamide electrophoresis and (5) the isoelectric point is 9.4-9.5 measured by a sucrose density gradient isoelectric electrophoresis. |
