A waste stream contg. fats in aq. emulsion and solid particles is treated to separate the three phases. The effluent (14) is heated (8) to a temp. above the m.pt. of the fats and homogenised (1). The mixt. is then dynamically sepd.(7) to produce an aq. phase (17), a solid phase (18) and a fatty phase (19). The fats are then burnt (29) and ≥ part of the heat produced used to warm incoming effluent (2).
