The dishwashing machine has a conveyor belt 1 to transport the crockery 7 through a preliminary stage v, a main cleaning stage h and a final rinsing stage n. In each stage there is a catcher tank 2, 3, etc for the cleaning water with a spray nozzle 6, 32 etc. There are cleaning fluid inlets for the main stages. There is a drain 20 for the waste water and a heat exchanger 10 with one circuit fed by cold fresh water and another circuit subject to heated cleaning water, before this is drained off. The heat exchanger surface 9 of this second circuit is under the conveyor belt in the preliminary stage, with heated water from the crockery falling through a sieve 8 above it.
