Method for initial set-up of IC engine by dynamometer and computer

A procedure for the initial setting-up of an IC engine (3) manufactured in large volume employs a dynamometer testbed and associated computer (2) whose memory (9) contains previously established operating data specific to the type of engine. The electronic engine controller (5) has a memory unit (5') which receives the above data via the bus (8) and engine control is thereby achieved during a first testbed run. During the run the computer (2) exercises a monitoring function which verifies via the sensor signals (6) that engine parameters lie within a previously defined tolerance band or stores deviations for subsequent off-line correction.
