PRODUCTION OF STYRENIC POLYMER

PURPOSE: To economically obtain a polymer, good in moldability and having a high breaking elongation and impact strength at a low cost by (co) polymerizing styrene alone or the styrene with a vinyl monomer in the presence of a specific compound. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a styrenic polymer is to (co) polymerize styrene alone or the styrene with a vinyl monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of a compound of formula I [A and B are each OC(O) or C(O)O; X is a polyolefin skeleton constituted of (CH2 )n or (CH2 -CH=CH-CH2 )r or formula II or III; (m) is 1-3; (n) is 100-500; (r) is 25-125; (p) and (s) are each 1-20]. An esterified condensate of a (un)hydrogenated both hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene withα- orβ- -mercaptopropionic acid and an esterified condensate of a (un)hydrogenated both carboxy-terminated polybutadiene withβ-mercaptoethanol are cited as the compound of formula I.
