An electrical article surveillance system has a number of receiving coils, and a noise environment analyser determines the noise environment individual to each coil. The analyser includes a scanning device for individually connecting the receiving coils to it. The analyser also includes separate noise analysis channels respectively for each receiving coil. A transmitter sends transmitting energy to the receiving coils and multi-phase power source for excitation of the transmitter.
