Frictional union between a tubular FRP shaft and a metallic connector has a male member inside the tube to transmit torque to articulated shafts or similar. Member is an expanded hollow cylinder force-fitting into the end of the tube which is expanded elastically. Outer FRP shaft is bonded to the steel connector which has one hollow end inside the shaft and the outside end with a key. Space inside the inner end is enclosed by an end cap welded on. The opposite end has a centre bore by which the space can be filled. When the inner connector has been inserted into the tube, it is expanded so that its outer dia. is forced out to the inner dia. of the tube. The connector needs no expensive or precision tools to be fitted in and it needs only to be made to relatively coarse dimensional tolerances. The outer tube has a thicker wall where the union is made. After expanding the tube, the pressure in the space is released.
