PURPOSE: To obtain a treating agent for fiber, comprising a specific acetoacetic ester group-containing polyvinyl alcohol-based resin as a main component, high in utility as a warp sizing agent for fiber, a sizing agent for washing, etc. CONSTITUTION: This treating agent for fiber comprises an acetoacetic ester group-containing polyvinyl alcohol-based resin as a main component obtained by a method for reacting a polyvinyl alcohol with a diketene, etc. The resin contains <=2wt.% of an alkali metal acetate and <=5wt.% of acetic acid in the weight ratio of the alkali metal acetate and acetic acid of (100:1)-(1:100), is useful as a warp sizing agent for fiber improving cohesion power, sizing agent removing properties and tack for a filament and bettering fluff preventing properties, wear resistance and smoothness for spun yarn, effective for improving weaving properties in both the uses and is useful as a sizing agent for washing to improve rigidity and softness, drying cleaning properties, crease resistance, change in color, etc. |
