PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the deterioration in the resolution by not only extending distortion singly according to a theoretical equation but also conducting image reduction conversion at the same time in the case of executing distortion correction so as to bring lots of image pickup information to a valid area. SOLUTION: In the case of reading an image based on a correction coefficient corresponding to distortion by an optical system 1, read position from an image memory 5 is changed and distortion correction is executed. Then an address generating circuit 13 reduces an image pickup pattern into a prescribed size by an electronic zoom function. The read address is returned to a read control circuit 12. Furthermore, image data stored in the image memory 5 are stored for each picture element of an image pickup element 2 with respect to a video signal, or data may be stored for each picture element group consisting of plural picture elements. Thus, when the same pattern as the reduced image is displayed by conventional correction only, by validating image data of a region having been aborted in a conventional device, the resolution is improved by image data in validated parts in the aborted area. |
