The alteration in the volume to a great extent is brought about by the seam. The function of the resonance chamber with variable volume is determined via a pressure surveillance unit, a step motor activated electronically, and displacement of a measuring tube by means of a spindle. Three situations with the detector are possible, i.e. (1) the detector is applied, but no material is on the ironing board; (2) the detector is applied, with material without seam; and (3) the detector is applied, with material with seam. In situation (3), it can be seen that the material through the seam is brought upwards on the flat top plate. The resonance chamber is thereby enlarged.
