PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the strength of the surface of the glass base plate having the positioning groove by strengthening the surface of the groove. SOLUTION: A glass material 30 is, for example, alkali glass and a ceramic- mold 40 has an inverted V type rib 42. The softened glass material 30 is pressed against the mold 40 to transfer the shape of the mold 40, and the glass base plate 32 having the V groove 32 is formed. Then the glass base plate 32 is dipped, for example, in alkali compound dissolved liquid 44 to perform a treatment by a low-temperature type chemical strengthening method. Consequently, the glass base plate 32 having the V groove 34 whose surface 340 is strengthened is obtained. Thus, the base plate 32 having the positioning groove 34 for an optical fiber can be mass-produced at a low price since it is made of glass, and the surface 340 of the groove 34 is strengthened, so necessary strength is obtained. Therefore, the V-groove manufacture cost is greatly reduced to obtain a switch device at a low cost. |
