Method of braking motor-vehicle with electromagnetically tripped spring storage-brake

The method is based on determining a parameter dependent on the air-gap between the electromagnet and the brake body. During the application of braking the current passing though the electromagnet is influenced by the detected parameter. The current is first reduced from an initial value (I1) when braking is initiated. The current is then raised to a target current level (I2) after a defined delay time (delta t) has expired. The delay period is determined on the basis of the detected air-gap dependent parameter.
