PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an absorbent material by which an absorbent material excellent in shape retention and various absorption properties (e.g. absorption rate or absorption capacity under pressure) can be produced and which enables the production steps to be simplified, the productivity to be improved, and an absorbent material to be produced at a low cost. SOLUTION: A bubble-contg. gel of a hydrophilic crosslinked polymer is pressed (calendered). For instance, a bubble-contg. gel compsn. 10 comprising a bubble-contg. gel of a crosslinked poly(meth)acrylic acid (salt), glycerin (a polyhydric alcohol), polyester fibers (a molding aid), etc., is fed to the upstream side of a pressing roller 2 on a drier drum 1. The compsn. 10 is pressed (calendered) by the roller 2 and heated to be converted into a sheet 11. Thus is obtd. an absorbent material in the form of a sheet of which at least one side is smooth. |
