PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition high in water-absorbing rate both under pressure and no pressure and great in water-absorbing capacity and low in water-soluble component content, thus applicable to the medical supplies area, etc., by including an expanded water-absorbing resin and an organometallic surfactant. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. of an expanded water-absorbing resin and (B) pref. 0.0001-30 pts.wt. of an organometallic surfactant. The component A is prepared, pref. by solution polymerization of a mixture of water-soluble unsaturated monomer and cross-linkable monomer. It is preferable that this composition is 0.02-1.0m<2> /g in specific surface area and a powdery material having an average particle size of 100-1,000μm. Thereby, the objective composition favorably applicable to various uses requiring water absorption and water retention can be afforded.
