PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image with high quality constantly without generating fluctuation or variation of a light quantity even when a temperature of a light shatter element is varied and an accumulated energizing time is increased. SOLUTION: There is disclosed an optical writing device wherein multiple optical shutter elements 62 each made of a PZLT are turned on or off based on an image signal to modulate a light emitted from a halogen lamp 2, thereby writing an image an a photosensitive drum 20. A temperature of the optical shutter elements 62 is detected and an accumulated energizing time of each of the optical shutter elements 62 is calculated. At least one of an applying voltage to the lamp, a driving voltage to the optical shutter element 62 and driving pulse width thereto is varied based on the temperature or accumulated energizing time.
