PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively remove the low twist domains of an STN(supertwisted nematic)-LCD. SOLUTION: After the liquid crystal cell is washed in a detergent tank and a pure water tank, the temp. of the pure water is maintained at the NI point temp. minus 10 deg.C or above of liquid crystals and below the NI point temp. and further UV waves are applied on the liquid crystals in seen tank 7 for domain removal. In such a case, the frequency of the ultrasonic vibration is preferably 20 to 100 kHz and further preferably 28 to 42 Hz. The ultrasonic output is preferably >=0.6 W/cm<2> and further preferably >=0.8 W/cm<2> . The liquid crystals of the liquid crystal cell attain the unstable state just before the transfer of a nematic phase to an isotropic phase and the ultrasonic vibration is applied thereon in this state, by which the low twist domains are effectively removed. |
