PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brace capable of preventing the generation of frictional sound. SOLUTION: A brace 10a comprises a stiffening pipe 11 made of a rectangular steel pipe and a shaft 12 made of flat steel, which is passed through the stiffening pipe 11 and supported on one of the opposite inner corner parts of the stiffening pipe 11 with a gapθbetween them. A lubricant 16 is applied to the inner surface of the stiffening pipe 11, and a space part 20 inside the stiffening pipe 11 is filled with a sound absorbing material 13. For the sound absorbing material 13, a porous material (wet rock wool) is used. Even if the shaft 12 of the brace 10a is exerted with an axial compressive force and bound by the stiffening pipe 11 and the corners of the shaft 12 at ends on both sides make direct contact with the interior walls of the corner parts of the stiffening pipe 11, they slide without resistance because of the lubricant 16 applied to the inner surface of the stiffening pipe 11, thus reducing frictional sound, and causing the frictional sound generated to be absorbed by the sound absorbing material 13 packed. Also, a lid 14 and the sound absorbing material 13 itself can prevent the degradation of the lubricant 16 by preventing the influence of outside air.
