METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE USED BANDWIDTH ON A CONNECTION AND A BANDWIDTH DETERMINATION MEANS

PURPOSE: The method can determine the used bandwidth on a connection more accurately and needs less hardware and less software to accomplish the accurate result. CONSTITUTION: The method is for determining the used bandwidth(CCR) on a connection(18) where information-carrying units are transmitted. A duration interval(ET) of an arriving period while a predetermined number(M) of a cell arrives at a constant point of the connection is measured and stored. The bandwidth at a random time(GT) is set as (predetermined number(M))/(stored duration interval(ET)) in case that a point of time(TS) when the duration interval is stored is not longer than a threshold time interval(THR) predetermined at the random time(GT). The determining means includes; a measuring means to measure the duration interval of the arriving period; a storing means(13) to store the duration interval; and a defining means(15) defining the bandwidth(CCR) as (predetermined number(M))/(stored duration interval(ET)).
