PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve design of a medical treatment room by thinning a luminaire body in a direction normal to the surface of a vertical wall in the medical treatment room. SOLUTION: This lighting system 2 indirectly illuminates by irradiating the vertical wall 42 of a medical treatment room 4. The system is equipped with a luminaire body formed into a long shape, a main illumination lamp provided in a center part of the luminaire body for indirectly illuminating the room, and reading lights 23 disposed on at least one end part of the luminaire body adjacent to the main illumination lamp along the longitudinal direction, and the luminaire body is adapted not to project in a direction normal to the surface of the vertical wall 42.
