PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of magnetic recording medium that can prevent an illegal act, e.g. forgery or alteration, and can form a sparse/ dense pattern surely and economically. SOLUTION: The production method of magnetic recording medium 1 has a master layer forming step for forming a first magnetic layer 31 on a basic material 2 and recording specified magnetic information on the first magnetic layer 31, and a fixed information forming step for applying a second magnetic layer 35 directly or through an intermediate layer onto the first magnetic layer 31 and forming a sparse/dense pattern of magnetic powder corresponding to the fixed magnetic information on the first magnetic layer 31 by processing the second magnetic layer 35 by field aligning processing under undried state, and the field orientation processing of the second magnetic layer is carried out using a pulsating field.
