PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide character compositing and outputting device and a method which do not need a dedicated character input device, can accomplish space saving and also allow anybody to easily input a desired character. SOLUTION: A handwritten original is read as image data by using a flatbed scanner 12 for image inputting, and the data is composited into an input image and outputted from printers 22 and 23. In the case of reading a character original, change is made to setting in which resolution and the number of colors are reduced in comparison with when an image original is read, and scanning is performed. A character writing area is preliminarily set on a composite image, and the read handwritten character string is automatically subjected to size adjustment to be composited and outputted so as not to generate character deficiency in the character writing area. Also, in the case a character type is converted according to character recognition processing, the whole character string is composited with the handwritten characters as they are when a character unrecognizable character is included. The device is also connected to a communication line and characters can be inputted from a portable telephone set and a portable information terminal which are accustomed in use by a user. |
