Microfluidic structures with at least one internal channel for fluid retention. In one embodiment, the microfluidic structure is a card-like chip comprising a substrate and a cover laminated thereon. The substrate is preferably a thin planar structure with at least one fluid channel formed on at least one side. A flexible chip is produced when a thin glass plate is used as the substrate. In another embodiment, the chip is an integral piece of plastic containing internal channels for fluid retention. This plastic chip may be provided with access holes for external access to the channels, and electrically conductive electrodes to allow electrical connection between fluid in the channel and the exterior. The plastic chip may be made of thermoplastic or thermoset resin.
|
