PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for detecting the pollution of the lubricating oil for a press in which the pollution of the lubricating oil can be correctly detected irrespective of the kinds of lubricating oil without any degradation and corrosion by the lubricating oil, and the maintenance and examination are simple. SOLUTION: In the apparatus for detecting the pollution of the lubricating oil of the press, a transparent part 11 which can see through the lubricating oil is provided on a lubricating oil tank to feed the lubricating oil to the press, and see-through type lubricating oil pollution detection sensors 12 are provided across the transparent part 11 outside the transparent part 11. The pollution of the lubricating oil is detected based on the change in the quantity of the received light by the sensors 12, and the lubricating oil is exchanged.
