PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high strength rail in which the wear resistance of the rail is improved by controlling the content of carbon in steel to a fixed value or above and controlling the lamellar interval, the form, size and number of carbides in the pearlitic structure to fixed ranges in a structure in which carbides are dispersed into a pearlitic structure, and the wear resistance required for a heavy load railway is improved by simultaneously securing surface damage resistance needed for rail steel. SOLUTION: This pearlitic rail contains, by mass, 0.85 to 2.00% C, in which at least a part of the head has a pearlitic structure containing spheroidized carbides in which the ratio of the major diameter to the minor diameter is <=2, in the optional cross-section of the pearlitic structure, the lamellar interval in the pearlitic structure is <=400 nm, and also, the number of spheroidized carbides in which the average value of the major diameter and the minor diameter lies in the range of 50 to 600 nm is 30 to 200 pieces in the field area of 50μm2.
