MPEG FLOW IDENTIFICATION IN IP NETWORK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actually decide whether a packet includes an MPEG-2 video by checking a payload in an IP packet, without using a previously defined stream or a preferential level to be assumed, to include information of whether the MPEG-2 video is included. SOLUTION: When a 'sync' byte of the MPEG-2 stream is retrieved in the IP packet payload and a pattern indicating the sync byte is discovered, the sync byte is identified, and it is decided that the packet includes the MPEG-2 video. The sync byte is defined in the MPEG-2 in the case of a terrestrial radio broadcasting, so that a television receiver may synchronize with a MPEG-2 transport stream packet. It is noted that the MPEG-2 video such as, the MPEG-2 transport stream packet may be built in a real-time protocol(RTP) packet, before being built in the IP packet, or may not be built in the packet.
