PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a polysaccharide derivative in a high productivity. SOLUTION: This method for producing a polysaccharide derivative comprises reacting a polysaccharide with one or more compounds selected from a glycidyl ether containing an alkyl group or an alkenyl group, an epoxy compound containing a group selected from a sulfonic acid group, a carboxy group, an amino group, a phosphoric ester group and a polyoxyalkylene and a polyoxyalkylene formation agent to give a polysaccharide derivative in which a part or the whole of OH of the polysaccharide is substituted with one or more kinds of groups selected from an alkyl or alkenyl glyceryl ether group, an OH-substituted sulfoalkyl group, an OH-substituted carboxyalkyl group, an OH-substituted aminoalkyl group, an OH-substituted alkyl phosphate group, an OH-substituted polyoxyalkylene group. Water in an amount of 5-150 wt.% based on the polysaccharide of the raw material is used as a reaction solvent.
