A diene rubber with good impact resistance is prepared by polymerizing a conjugated diene monomer and an aromatic vinyl monomer using an alkali metal catalyst to give a conjugated diene polymer with a terminal alkali metal and reacting with an amine. A diene rubber is prepared by polymerizing a conjugated diene monomer and an aromatic vinyl monomer in a hydrocarbon solvent using an alkali metal catalyst to give a conjugated diene polymer with a terminal alkali metal and reacting this with an amine of formula (I) and optionally a silicon or tin compound of formula (II).
