PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce machining allowance and improve working efficiency in grinding for generating a spherical surface shape from a flat blank (work) by a curve generator. SOLUTION: In this grinding method, a small columnar glass piece 2 with a thickness of 1-3 mm and a diameter of 10-20% of a work diameter pasted in the center of the flat work 1 with adhesive is used as the blank. In the initial confirmation of contacting, a projection 3 formed on the glass piece 2 and a radius of curvature are measured and determined/confirmed by a simplified spherical surface measuring instrument without contacting the whole face of the work blank 1. The projection 3 and the radius of curvature R are corrected with adjusting positional relationship of the work 1 and a grinding wheel on the basis of the measured and determined result, for removing the projection 3 and the glass piece 2 and for generating desired radius of curvature R and spherical surface accuracy of a wall thickness (t).
