PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simplified voltage mode control eliminating the need for current feedback because the current feedback is required for controlling a head position in current mode control of a hard disk drive. SOLUTION: This device comprises a servo information detector (800), a decoder (812) for decoding the servo information and separating it into a common-mode positional signal and a quadrature positional signal, 1st and 2nd analog-to-digital converters (813, 814) for the common-mode positional signal and the quadrature positional signal, a digital signal processor (822), and a digital-to-analog converter (816) for generating an analog actuator signal to be supplied to a plant. The digital signal processor (822) is programmed so as to calculate a head position error signal(PES) presenting a head position to a center line of a nearest track; estimate the absolute head position to a fixed reference position; and calculate an actuator voltage control signal as a function of the PES signal and a desired position signal.
