PURPOSE: A security system and method using data obtained by photographing faces are provided to compare data of people photographed using an image tracking camera with data of criminals stored in a database of a central control unit to arrest criminals rapidly and safely. CONSTITUTION: A security system using data obtained by photographing faces includes a camera(12) for photographing people's faces, a management computer(20) for receiving face data photographed by the camera, a pre-processor(31) for pre-processing video data, and a characteristic point detector(32) for detecting characteristic points from the pre-processed video signal. The system further includes a three-dimensional information extraction unit(33) for extracting three-dimensional information of an image, a mask generator(36) for generating a mask based on the extracted three-dimensional information, a shape recognition unit(35) for recognizing the mask, and a central control unit(30) having a database(34) storing video data of criminals. The central control unit is connected to the management computer through a network to receive the face data from the computer so as to search out a desired person.
