PURPOSE: An error detecting apparatus of a steering angle sensor is provided to detect errors by monitoring disconnection or short circuit of a signal line with modifying the interface between the steering angle sensor and an electronic control unit. CONSTITUTION: An error detecting device is composed of a steering angle sensor(10a) measuring the steering angle of a vehicle by using light, and an electronic control unit(20a) detecting the steering angle by calculating the signal from the steering angle sensor. The steering angle sensor has a photo transistor(Q1) detecting passing of light, a sixth resistor(R6) connected to a collector, and seventh and eighth resistors(R7,8) connected to the sixth resistor. The electronic control unit includes a first condenser(C1) connected to the steering angle sensor, a ninth resistor(R9) connected to the first condenser, a tenth resistor(R10), a second condenser(C2), a comparator(Q2) outputting a differential level signal, and an analog to digital converter. Errors are detected with monitoring disconnection or short circuit.
