PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system where a exchange, such as a telephone exchange controlling each terminal, such as phones connected to the Internet, and each terminal mutually and automatically transmit/receive address information and can start communication, without the need for manual entry of setting values. SOLUTION: In the communication system characterized, each terminal connected to the exchange is connected to an external communication network via other exchanges connected to the external communication network, each terminal requests the exchange for setting processing for each terminal to be connected to the communication network by transmitting transmission data, including information of a terminal identification value for uniquely identifying each terminal to the exchange, the exchange records and refers to communication setting information of each terminal, uses the terminal identification value of the received terminal, when receiving a setting processing request from the terminal, to retrieve whether or not the communication setting of the terminal is set, and conducts the setting processing to connect the terminal to the communication network, on the basis of the recorded communication setting, when the communication setting of the terminal is recorded.
