摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner having improved scanning efficiency, and to provide an imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: This optical scanner is provided with a light source means 1, a deflection means 6, having a plurality of deflection surfaces for reflecting and deflecting luminous flux from the light source means in the main scanning direction, and an optical system, guiding the luminous flux reflected and deflected by the deflection means to a surface to be scanned 8. In the optical scanner, the luminous flux is made incident on the deflection surface in a width larger than the width of the deflection surface in the main scanning direction, and the surface to be scanned has non-effective areas which needs to be irradiated with light on both sides across an effective area where an image is formed on a main scanning cross section. When the non-effective area on a scanning finishing side on the surface to be scanned is scanned with the luminous flux, based on either of two adjacent deflection surfaces of the deflection means, the non-effective area on a scanning starting side on the surface to be scanned, is scanned with the luminous flux based on the other deflection surface.
