PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for measuring the temperature of a transducer/ blade by surely separating shunt capacitance from resonance or a condition close to resonance. SOLUTION: The method includes a process 710 for determining the shunt capacitance of the transducer, a process 730 for calculating the temperature of the transducer on the basis of the shunt capacitance of the transducer, and a process 745 for providing a warning to the user of a hand piece if one of the temperature of the transducer and the rate of change of temperature is excessive.
