PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera for paintings and calligraphy for writing a specific pattern on a manuscript table, and detecting the pattern written on the manuscript table from an imaged picture, and discriminating a subject area from a background area by pattern recognition, and for executing proper AE/AF/AWB processing. SOLUTION: This camera for paintings and calligraphy is provided with an image pickup means, a manuscript table on which a specific pattern is written, and an area discriminating circuit.
