PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-jet recording apparatus capable of preventing decline of throughput at the time of recording, restraining wasteful consumption of an ink in the preliminary ejection, and maintaining nozzle state capable of ejecting ink droplets always stably, and an ink-jet recording method. SOLUTION: In the ink-jet recording apparatus for executing a time sharing separation drive of ejecting ink droplets to a recording medium per block unit of a plurality of ejection openings arranged in a recording head and divided into sets of a plurality of pieces, the recording head is driven by a block driving time interval shorter than an ordinary block driving time interval in the case the recording density of recording data is less than a predetermined value while driving the recording head by the ordinary block driving time interval at the time of recording so as to increase meniscus surface vibration of the ejection openings. In the case the recording density of the recording data is the predetermined value or more, the recording head is again driven by the ordinary block driving time interval. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
