PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a storage system provided with a storage device 10 functioning autonomously to eliminate an administration server. SOLUTION: A plurality of copy unit agents 300 manage copy units 500 respectively and a file system agent 200 manages a copy unit agent 300 of an identical user. The copy unit agent 300 has a duplication function of the copy unit, detects a multiplicity of the copy units via a network autonomously, and requests other storage device for duplication if the multiplicity is deficient.
