PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure that has a high filling efficiency and does not, in principle, waste ink along with a filling operation because a necessary negative pressure is applied to a print head in the case where an ink storage vessel for storing a predetermined quantity of ink to be supplied to the print head is provided and a supply system is so constituted that the ink is intermittently supplied to the ink storage vessel from an ink tank as an ink supply source. SOLUTION: An ink accommodating body capable of generating a negative pressure by an elastic force is provided to the ink storage vessel, the ink tank and the ink accommodating body are connected to each other, and the ink is introduced into the ink storage vessel by decompressing the inner section of the storage vessel to expand the ink accommodating body (STEP 4). After the ink is introduced, the inner section of the ink storage vessel is pressurized to contract the ink accommodating body, thereby to return a predetermined quantity of the ink to the ink tank so that a negative pressure condition which is balanced with an ink meniscus holding force of the print head is obtained (STEP 5).
