PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming a coating film on an aluminum alloy which has a pollution-free type and has excellent weather resistance, durability and designability. SOLUTION: The following processes are successively carried out. Process (A): A process of boehmite treatment by bringing an aluminum alloy into contact with hot water or steam containing ammonia or amines or containing no ammonia or amines. Process (B<SB>1</SB>): A process of 1st inorganic deposition treatment by dipping the boehmite treated aluminum alloy in a 1st aqueous solution or a 1st dispersion solution containing at least one kind of a water soluble or water dispersible oxyacid salt. Process (C<SB>1</SB>): At least one kind selected from a coating material selected from an anionic electrodeposition coating material, a cationic electrodeposition coating material, powder paint, a thermosetting ultraviolet setting spray type coating material is applied, baked and hardened to form the coating film on the aluminum alloy.
