PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery with a high reliability in closing up using a caulking work utilizing a circular groove formed at the position not to invite a loss of inner space of the battery case, and provide a manufacturing method of the same. SOLUTION: Electrode groups 4 are housed in a battery case 5 in cross- sectionally almost the square state, an opening head part 11 of the battery case 5 is compression molded in a cylindrical shape, and the circular groove 5a is formed by pushing a roller 9 for a groove to the side face from the side way of the opening head part 11 while rotating the battery case 5 under the condition that a pressurizing force is given to the battery case 5 in the shaft direction from the opening part side, or by pushing the roller 9 for groove forming sideway from the side face of the opening head part 11 while rotating the battery case 5 and by displacing it in the direction of the opening part of the battery case 5 at the same time. A circular support part 5b swollen out inward the battery case 5 is made to support a sealed body 10, which is caulked and fixed by folding the opening end part of the battery case 5 inward.
