PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fluid for traction drive, exhibiting a good traction drive characteristics in a wide temperature range, and also easily synthesized. SOLUTION: This fluid for the traction drive contains a silicone compound expressed by following general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP><SB>a</SB>R<SP>2</SP><SB>b</SB>SiO(<SB>4-a-b)/2</SB>[wherein, (a), (b) are each 0.01≤a≤2.5, 0.01≤b≤2.5 and 0.05<a+b<3.0; R<SP>1</SP>'s are the same or different kinds selected from a 1-30C monovalent hydrocarbon group of an alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl, or a fluorine-substituted alkyl obtained by substituting a part of hydrogen atoms with fluorine; R<SP>2</SP>is a substituent having a siloxy unit expressed by following general formula (2) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>in the formula (2) is the same as the R<SP>1</SP>in the formula (1)); and (c), (d) are each 2≤c≤5, 0≤d≤100].
