In a printing apparatus which performs printing by using a printhead having a printing element unit for performing printing and a memory , the control circuit of the printing apparatus main body outputs a command for acquiring specific information from information held by the memory block. Upon reception of this command, the command control unit of a carriage control unit generates an access signal containing an address for reading out information designated by the command from the memory block.
